With Blue arriving seconds later, Oak tells the two trainers about a dream of his when he was young which was to use his Pokémon to create a full guide on the Pokémon in the Kanto region but due to his old age, Oak can no longer accomplish his goal, something he wants both Red and Blue to do for him instead. Once that has ended, Red makes his way to Kanto Route 1, eventually reaching Viridian City where he arrives at the Poke Mart to receive a Parcel that he then brings back to Oak in Pallet Town. Upon being brought to the lab where Blue is, Oak gives the two a choice between the three Kanto starters: Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle.ĭepending on the starter Pokémon Red picks, Blue will soon choose his own starter Pokémon but one that has a type advantage over Red's starter Pokémon.Īfter both have chosen their respective Pokémon, they will battle one another with Blue wanting to challenge Red as he believes his starter Pokémon can beat Red's Pokémon. One day, as Red prepares to leave his home to begin his Pokémon journey, he is stopped from leaving the town by Oak who tells him he needs a Pokémon for his own protection. However, this contradicts Professor Oak's claim in the games that the two have in fact been rivals since they were both infants. He was also once friends with Blue, the grandson of Pallet Town's local Pokémon expert, Professor Oak but as revealed via the instruction manuels, Red gained an interest in Pokémon once Blue stopped playing with him, instead choosing to begin bullying him instead. In Red, Green and Blue, Red is a curious 11 year old boy from Pallet Town. He is shown to be both loyal to his Pokémon and his cause, and seen by the fact that he always has the three potential starters on him, indicating whichever Pokémon he chose first has remained with him, and when he fought in the World of Light Trailer (Super Smash Brothers Ultimate) where he and his Pokémon were among the few to fight back against Galeem. He is very quiet, usually only ever using ellipses (.) in the games. This can be seen easily because he seldom smiles. Red is a very serious person, especially when he battles. He also wears blue jeans, red and white sneakers and carries a brown backpack with black straps. He wears a red sleeveless jacket with white pockets, the jacket itself now having been designed to look much shorter with a black t-shirt with white sleeves underneath. As in Generation 1, he has spiky black hair and brown or red eyes. Red's outfit is very similar to the original games, but now looks a bit more updated.
